In the world of small business, I see this instruction everywhere.

Hustle! Hustle! Hustle! Don’t miss an opportunity, learn all you can, work smart and reap the rewards.

I get it and yet, it has never resonated for me. Yes, in all parts of my life I want to work smart and reap the rewards, but “hustle” just feels a bit aggressive for me.

I think, perhaps, that even in the sphere of fertility treatment and wellbeing, we are expected to hustle.

Don’t waste an opportunity, the clock is ticking, take action fast before you miss out!

Does that sound familiar to you? It is to me and I don’t like it. Today, I spotted this image from one of my heroes Elizabeth Gilbert and I exhaled.

YES! This is for me.

rest is the new hustle

Then I read a facebook post from another woman who inspires me daily – Rachel Mary Stafford of The Hands Free Revolution. She spoke about rushing, about pushing forward, when what you really want to do is wait, rest, take some time out.

Hands Free Revolution Quote for blog

Boy…did that speak to me. Maybe it speaks to you too. Maybe you’ve been waiting for permission to slow down, to stop, to delay making a decision or starting something you’re not quite ready for. I promise you, there is ALWAYS time. Sometimes the best thing you can possibly do next is nothing. (Read the rest of Rachel’s post here)

You don’t need anyone’s permission to stop and wait, least of all mine, but I’m going to give it to you anyway. Sometimes we all need someone who gets where we’re at to say,

It’s OK. There’s no rush. Take your time.

Consider this blog post a permission slip to wait until you’re ready, whatever it is you’re grappling with right now.
